This is a question I get asked all the time. So here it is. What I eat in a day. Enjoy!

Breakfast:

I typically fast from the night before so the only thing I consume is at least 1 liter of water right after rising. If I have a hard time waking up, I will drink plain green tea, with no milk or sugar as that will stop your body from being in a fasting state.

Lunch:

24 oz. Green juice with cucumber, kale, celery, lemon and ginger

Green salad with shrimp, an egg and plenty of green vegetables

Dinner:

Some kind of fish, chicken or steak with grilled or sauteed vegetables and a small side of rice

Water intake throughout the day: 128 ounces or 1 Gallon

As you’ve just read, I keep it very simple when it comes to my diet.

I fast during the morning. In the afternoon, I eat light. My heaviest meal of the day is at dinnertime. There is a reason for my madness, I promise you.

Here’s the skinny:

I like to fast, and I do it daily. The type of fasting I do is called Intermittent Fasting. Typically, I will fast between 13-16 hours from the last meal of the evening until the following afternoon. Since I eat later in the evening (I work late hours in my spa), I tend to fast until at least 2 pm. Then I will usually have something to eat. I always go for a green juice and a salad. It’s important to eat light during my first meal of the day so that I can avoid any insulin spikes that cause tiredness as well as nourish my body with lots of phytonutrients that are nutrient dense and cleansing.

Once I am home and ready for dinner, since the body has all night to process your food intake while sleeping, I tend to eat heavier at this time. I make sure to eat enough calories to maintain my current shape. If I am attempting to lose weight though, I usually adjust this by cutting out the carbohydrates altogether and/or cutting how much protein I am eating in that meal. If I’m still hungry but have reached my daily caloric limit, I will munch on some iceberg lettuce as it’s filled with water and I tend to cut it into wedges, so they seem more filling to me, while dipping the wedges in some apple cider vinegar (to stave hunger pangs) and real lemon juice with a little sea salt and cayenne pepper to taste.

Also, it’s important to note- I do not eat more than twice a day. The reason for this is due to triggering insulin levels that will cause blood sugar to rise. Those insulin spikes may cause tiredness, lethargy and less efficient digestion so I choose to consume carbohydrates at my last meal of the day.

Now, this isn’t how I eat on my off days. I am human so I usually have 1-2 cheat meals during the weekend. In addition, if I’m consuming alcohol, I drink at nighttime and I prefer to limit my drinking at 1-2 days a week. If I’m on a diet, I usually limit drinking to one day a week or even none, depending on how far I am from reaching my weight loss goal. Why? Well, alcohol is a sugar toxin and toxins are held in fat cells so if you want to lose weight, best to limit or refrain from it altogether until you reach your goal.

No matter how you choose to eat or diet though, always aim for moderation. Eat clean at least 80% of the time and limit cheating to a maximum of 20% of the time and you should be able to maintain your current shape.

Happy healthy eating!
